The unintended expat blogger behind Copper Meadow Lumen

Hello, I am Ana
I’m a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Porto, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What started as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Portugal wasn't in the grand plan. Like many overseas assignments, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much greater.
The initial months were demanding — fresh systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday chores felt heavier than they should.
The Adaptation Phase
Culture shock, doubts, and a lot of learning by doing were part of it. Gradually, habits took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
What Led Me to Create Copper Meadow Lumen
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — actionable guidance drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in Portugal goes on, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Porto or anywhere in Portugal, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers,
Ana
